Paper money has been in use since around the 7th century, and it has existed in Europe since the 13th century. The idea arrived from China, thanks to travellers like Marco Polo. By the 17th century, banks all over Europe began using paper notes called banknotes, which gradually came under the control of national governments. The Bank of England has had exclusive rights to issue banknotes in England for about 170 years. In the USA, the Federal Reserve Bank has had similar rights since it began in 1913.
  • Plastic money
    • How long have we had credit cards? We have had them since 1949, when a man named Frank X. McNamara had a business dinner in a New York City restaurant. When the bill arrived, Frank realised he didn’t have his wallet. After this incident, he decided to find an alternative to cash and created a small, paper card, the Diners Club Card. With this card, a Club member could eat without cash at any restaurant that accepted it. Diners Club paid the restaurant and the credit card user repaid the Club. Since then, credit cards have become popular all over the world.

  6. Finger-paint your name. This is an activity with movement that you can try if you are in an appropriate space. Visualise a canvas in front of you. Imagine the palms of your hands coated with finger-paint. Take a few deep breaths and relax. Then, using the palms of both hands simultaneously, paint your name on the canvass you have visualised. Move slowly, stay relaxed and continue breathing slowly and deeply. This can create a nice mindset that is both calm and energised at the same time.
  7. Use music/natural sounds. Start by identifying songs that move you either up or down or which will launch you into a simultaneously calm and energised mindset. You need about 7-12 minutes to energise. Twelve minutes to calm down
